Cherry Pie

Cannons are firing in wars you haven't heard of yet
The news is too bitter to swallow
Your mother is at a conference

You're baking
Baking broiling burning
Something sweet that is no longer recognizable
You wanted it to be a surprise
Like a firecracker
Like a water balloon to the neck
The squealing
Like a cannon from a war you didn't know had begun firing
The fireworks spelling out your name
In the most beautiful, mouth-watering shade of red you've ever seen
